Artist Michael Kutsche was one of the brilliantly creative minds involved in developing unique character concepts for Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland.

“I was very lucky to meet Tim Burton as well as Ken Ralston from Sony Imageworks, I’ve been working directly at the film set in Plymouth and later on at the set in LA, it’s been a great time working for one of my favourite directors. Seeing Johnny Depp‘s performance was also mindblowing, he’s amazingly talented,” explains Michael in a journal entry from June 2009.

Now that the film has run its course in theaters & is available on DVD, Michael can freely share the bulk of the conceptual art he’d created for the Disney/Burton version of Alice In Wonderland. The illustrations, Michael informs us, were all created using Corel Painter X.

Original “Alice In Wonderland” to Auction for $150k

Alice Liddell‘s personal copy of “Alice In Wonderland”, the story she inspired, will be auctioned next month along with other rare first edition fantasy titles including “The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz“, “Winnie The Pooh“, and “The Tale Of Peter Rabbit“. The first edition Wonderland text has been part of the private collection of former U.S. professional football player Pat McInally. The auction, featuring primarily children’s literature, is expected to generate over $1 million in sales.

At Long Last…

At long last, I’ve completed the final few images needed to fully illustrate Through The Looking Glass. It’s taken me two years of steady procrastination coupled with heavy distraction, the odd bit of inspiration and the occasional miraculous moment of free time, but they’re finally ready. Here are the five new images, along with the original John Tenniel drawings. I hope you enjoy them!
